History

The beginning by Louis Frédéric Jeanjaquet

It all began on March 4, 1823, with the birth of Louis Frédéric Jeanjaquet in Boveresse in the Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. At that time, clockmakers like Louis Frédéric worked at their bench in winter while farming their fields during the rest of the year.

Premium quality for wealthy clients

To distinguish himself from competitors in Germany’s Schwarzwald (Black Forest), Louis Frédéric manufactured only sophisticated and well-crafted clocks, large chimes, alarm and repeater clocks not only for a wealthy clientele in Neuchâtel, Zurich and Geneva, but also for those in France, England, the United States and even Brazil. Louis Frédéric became one of the most gifted clockmakers of his generation and his name is still revered among distinguished Neuchâtel clock lovers.

The «Musée International d’Horlogerie», the largest and most famous international watchmaking museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, proudly displays some examples of his work.

Eugène and Emma

The link between the Jeanjaquet family and luxury products could have ended with the death of Louis Frédéric in 1897, but four of his 16 children, including Eugène, took up the clockmaker profession and continued the tradition. Until his death, Eugène Jeanjaquet made excellent Neuchâtel-style clocks. The wooden cabinets were decorated with great finesse by his daughter Emma.

Frédy

Frédy Jeanjaquet, the great-grandson of Louis Frédéric, was born in 1937. He studied watchmaking at the Technicum of la Chaux-de-Fonds.

Unlike his fellow students, Frédy left the region of Neuchâtel after concluding his studies to work as a watchmaker in London, Lucerne and Lugano also in order to acquire experience and languages skills.

Geneva

In the early 1960s, Frédy began working in the after-sales department of the most prestigious watch and jewellery shop in Geneva. After only a few months, he was promoted to manager. Frédy’s distinguished clients highly appreciated his charisma, discretion and above all his deep watchmaking knowledge. For over 30 years, he welcomed in his boutique international travelers, film actresses, race-car drivers, rich businessmen, lawyers, kings and other royals from the Middle East.

Unique and special

After his retirement in 1997, he continued to supply a Royal Palace with exceptional timepieces, custom-made luxury items and jewelry collections specially created for his sole but prestigious client.

Heritage

Rich of the heritage of four generations in the creation of luxury objects, Didier Jeanjaquet, great grandson of Louis Frédéric, decided a few years after the death of his father Frédy to launch Louis Frédéric as a brand to perpetuate the family tradition and give a few privileged people access to exclusive, rare and very high-quality jewellery, designed with the same care and passion for two centuries.

Today

Today, the brand blends this storied legacy with modern artistry, creating exclusive, high-quality jewellery that reflects the same dedication and passion for nearly two centuries.

Didier’s daughter, Anaïk, who is currently studying to become an architect, will soon take on the artistic direction of the brand, infusing it with fresh, innovative vision while honoring the family’s illustrious history.
